Frasers Property Australia are redeveloping the old Carlton and United Brewery site in Chippendale. Christies Civil Contracting were appointed as the building contractor.
The predominant land uses proposed for the CUB site are residential, commercial and retail. Outram Street (Block 10) is be developed for commercial use with provision for basement parking.
The ground conditions consist of silty sand which was found to be unstable for excavation for piling works.

GFWAust were asked to carry out a permeation grouting trial with microfine cement to see if the ground could be stabilised.


The trial showed that the deeper sediments could be stabilised and GFWAust were subsequently asked to stabilised 50 locations around the perimeter of the building to enable excavation for piers to support the old and new structure.
