David Lees and Associates was formed in May 1999 to provide geotechnical engineering services to the civil and mining industries.
Design Management
The company has provided design management services and specialist advice to contractors, consultants and clients for major tunnelling projects including Delhi Metro, Parramatta Rail Link, Lane Cove Tunnel, Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme, Copeton Shaft, Brisbane North South Bypass Tunnel, Blakefield South and Russell Vale Colliery, and an LNG tunnel to Curtis Island.
Blasting Consultancy
The company has been appointed as blasting consultant for Parramatta Rail Link and North Side Storage Tunnel in Sydney, Balina bypass in NSW and Gunalda bypass in Queensland, and tender for the Brisbane N-S bypass, and has provided technical advice to Brandrill in the development with their non-explosive rock breaking PCF.
Other areas of expertise
Other particular areas of expertise include tunnel inspections, determination of settlement and ground movements, and ground improvement.
The company has provided grouting technical support to Blakefield South Colliery, Victoria Park Stowage, West Wyalong True Blue Mine Shaft stabilisation, Shell at Greenwhich, Marrickville Railway Bridge, and Tritton Shaft, Lucas Heights Rehabilitation, and WestConnex New M5.
Site Supervision
In recent years David has been providing site supervision including the role of Designer's Representative for the soft ground NATM construction on contract TO1 for the Singapore Deep Tunnel Sewer System, Senior Tunnelling Engineer for the Melamchi water tunnel in Nepal, Chief Site Supervisor for the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project in Sri Lanka, and grouting supervisor for West Connex on the new M5 in Sydney.
Expert
David has also provided Expert Witness for the hydrogeological case on the Melbourne City Link arbitration, Port Headland dolphin demolition, Bondi Shopping Centre excavation works, TransGrid Cable Tunnel, Royal National Park rock breaking and Sugar Loaf National Park for the Department of the Environment.
David has also been the Banks Engineer for the Brisbane Airport Link Tunnel and has been appointed Grouting Expert on the Panel of Experts for Lesotho Highlands Water Phase 2
